An associate of the Hells Angels motorcycle club who was shot and killed on Highway 101 in Marin County was identified Monday as 25-year-old William Crompton Maclean of San Leandro.

Maclean was found with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the California Highway Patrol's Corte Madera office at 53 San Clemente Drive at 8:22 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Keith Boyd of the Marin County Sheriff's Department.

Maclean was taken to Marin General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He had been a passenger in a white Chevrolet truck that was traveling in front of a procession of motorcycles on northbound Highway 101 between Tiburon Boulevard and Paradise Drive at 8:15 p.m., Boyd said.

Maclean might have been shot by someone in a red SUV similar in style to a Dodge Durango, Boyd said. That car may have some kind of damage to its windows, authorities said.
