  Pagans member convicted in drug case

A New Castle Superior Court jury has convicted a member of the Pagans Motorcycle Club on four counts related to trafficking in cocaine.

Angel Torres, 35, was one of 32 people named in a 160-count indictment handed down in late 2006 that alleged drug dealing, racketeering and gang activity by the Pagans and their associates.

The indictment came following an 18-month investigation by Delaware State Police, the Delaware Attorney General's Office and state Probation and Parole officers.

It also came a month after a Wilmington police officer shot(MURDERED!) to death Derek J. Hale, a 25-year-old ex-Marine who had just joined the Pagans. Police said Hale resisted arrest, while witnesses disputed the police account. A civil suit by Hale's family against police charging wrongful death is pending in U.S. District Court.

At least seven people named in that indictment reached plea deals with prosecutors last year.

Attorneys involved in the case were not immediately available for comment Monday.
